What to expect in a service
Visitors are always welcome to our Sunday Services. Here's a summary of what you can expect at each one.
8:00am Holy Communion
This takes place in the main Cathedral and at present follows a modern language version of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer, a short sermon and one hymn to end the Service. A friendly group attend and it is followed by tea & coffee.
10:00am Choral Communion with Kid's Programme
The printed weekly Service Bulletin contains the entire Service including hymns and prayers and instructions. You collect this on the way in or download on the website. Sit in pews anywhere within body of the Cathedral. The service begins & ends with a procession of robed choir and clergy and lasts about 70 minutes. It is followed by tea & coffee. Children aged 5-12 yrs can attend our Kid's Programme and will return for Communion near the end of the Service. Choir & Kid's Programme stop over school holidays.
12:30pm Whakatu Anglican Maori Mission
5:30pm Evensong
A weekly Service held in the Chapel in te reo Māori.
A much loved traditional Service with robed choir to end the day. The choir sings much of the Service which consists of the Psalms - a staple of Jewish and Christian worship for 3,000 years - and other texts and anthems from the great Anglican tradition of 500+ years.
